A big thank you goes out to all the individuals, organizations, and businesses who helped celebrate the Centennial of Haines’ incorporation with banners around town, a longer Fourth of July parade and additional activities in Tlingit Park, along with a more spectacular fireworks display, historical photograph displays, a fun community picnic and photo shoot, and general enthusiasm. It would fill a page […]

I want to thank Ed Lapeyri for the use of his lounge at the Captain’s Choice on Wednesday, Aug. 18 for Sen. Ted Stevens’ memorial services on TV. We had about 75 people sign a memorial register that was sent to the family, along with a sympathy card. Also, I would like to thank Linda […]
Farewell party left writer overwhelmed

Prior to any demonstration of reduced passenger demand, several Carnival and Royal Caribbean ships were […]

In the process of replacing the surface, they cut the corner very sharp and reduced the amount of blacktop material on Front Street. See the picture the Chilkat Valley News put out regarding the motorcycle accident that […]

The state is looking at shoulder improvements or more asphalt at the intersection of Front Street and Lutak Road after a motorcycle crashed there Monday afternoon. The intersection was realigned as part of the recent Lutak Road reconstruction project. For motorists approaching the intersection from out Lutak Road, the alignment of Front is an optical illusion, project engineer Don Newell said […]
