The state Department of Transportation just recently completed working on the highway coming from the ferry and the adjacent road leading onto it called Front Street. In the process of replacing the surface, they cut the corner very sharp and reduced the amount of blacktop material on Front Street. See the picture the Chilkat Valley News put out regarding the motorcycle accident that occurred there. The young man who had the accident had come all the way from Anchorage and had an accident here.
I firmly believe that DOT needs to put up signs, cones, whatever to warn drivers of this very dangerous curve and narrow amount of surface on Front Street. I also believe that DOT needs to come in yesterday to correct this. What does a stop sign have to do with re-surfacing and that sharp corner? Every state puts up signs warning of “sharp curves. Why didn’t the state of Alaska do this? What engineer signed off on this being a safe curve? If you agree with me, please call state Rep. Bill Thomas and Gov. Sean Parnell. Thank you.
