Melissa J. King, 35, pleaded guilty on April 5 to committing first-degree criminal trespass and disorderly conduct on Feb. 11. Police were notified of an assault in progress on Tower Road and responded to find King standing in front of a residence. The home’s owner had repeatedly asked King to leave, but King refused and punched the owner in the face multiple times. When King was forced out of the residence, she tried to get back in through another door and eventually broke a window, causing more than $250 in damage. King was sentenced to eight days in jail, payment of restitution, completion of treatment, a $100 fee and one year probation.

Arthur Fredrick Salberg Jr., 50, pleaded guilty April 4 to driving under the influence and failing to stop at the direction of a police officer on Sept. 19. A person reported a man drove his truck onto the sidewalk near a Front Street bar and spilled empty beer cans out of the vehicle when he opened the door. Police caught up with Salberg at a different downtown bar and identified the reported truck outside. When confronted, he admitted the truck was his, but denied driving up onto the curb. The officers warned him about the dangers of drunk driving and told him to hire a cab or call a friend if he was too intoxicated to drive. A driver later reported he was almost struck by the same truck, but when officers responded and tried to pull Salberg over, he continued driving, reaching speeds between 75-80 mph. Salberg was sentenced to 95 days in jail, $4,467 in fines, $175 in fees, completion of treatment, one year license revocation, one year of driving with an ignition interlock device and two years’ probation.

Christopher Francis Kelly, 48, pleaded guilty April 4 to driving without a valid operator’s license on Aug. 31. A person reported a hit and run on Allen Road and saw Kelly’s truck drive away. Investigation led police to Kelly, who admitted hitting the car and driving without a license. Kelly was sentenced to five days in jail, payment of restitution, $100 in fees, 90 days of license revocation and one year probation.

Michael B. Culich, 65, pleaded guilty on April 4 to driving under the influence on Aug. 2. A man came to the station to report a man was passed out in his truck on Dalton Street. An officer responded and found Culich’s truck parked partially in the road and partially on the sidewalk. The officer found several half-empty vodka bottles in the truck bed, the keys in the ignition, and Culich asleep inside. Culich said he had been drinking and didn’t want to drive all the way home, so had decided to park somewhere and sleep it off. He blew a .224 on the Breathalyzer. He was sentenced to three days in jail, $1,830 in fines, $125 in fees, completion of treatment, 90 days license revocation, six months of driving with an ignition interlock device and one year probation.

Timmy Banks, 55, pleaded guilty on April 4 to driving without a valid operator’s license on July 27. An officer pulled Banks over near 1 Mile Mud Bay Road for speeding and found he didn’t have a valid license. Banks was sentenced to a $500 fine, $100 fee, 80 hours of community service, 90 days’ license revocation and two years’ probation.

Lawrence Jacob Stearns, 53, pleaded guilty on Feb. 4 to driving without a valid operator’s license on June 15. Stearns was pulled over when an officer discovered he was driving without a valid license. Stearns was sentenced to a $250 fine, a $50 fee and one year probation.

Jon H. Bonner, 33, pleaded guilty on Jan. 25 to driving with a suspended license on July 11. Bonner was pulled over for speeding near 6 Mile Lutak Road when an officer found Bonner’s license from New York had been suspended. Bonner was sentenced to a $250 fine, a $50 fee and one year probation.

Cody Taylor, 35, pleaded guilty on March 9 to operating a vehicle in a closed area on Sept. 19. Taylor used an ATV to retrieve moose in Chilkat State Park. Taylor used a trail he cut himself, not one that was previously established in the park. He was sentenced to a $200 fine and $10 fee.

Darian Bliss, 26, pleaded guilty March 16 to committing fourth-degree assault and disorderly conduct on Feb. 15. Police responded to a report that Bliss attacked a 20-year-old woman in front of the Haines post office. When an officer attempted to intervene, Bliss resisted, trying to tackle the officer. The officer Tased and pepper sprayed Bliss to subdue him. Bliss was sentenced to 45 days in jail, alcohol and mental health treatment, $150 fees, no contact with the woman, and three years’ probation.

William D. Whittington, 24, pleaded guilty Feb. 23 to fourth-degree theft and violating probation on Jan. 30. A man reported an amplifier stolen from his girlfriend’s car while it was parked at a Front Street bar. When the man confronted Whittington after finding out from a third party that Whittington had tried to sell the amp, Whittington admitted stealing it and apologized. When police contacted Whittington, he identified the buyer of the amp, who surrendered the amp as evidence. Whittington was sentenced to 40 days in jail and a $100 fee. He had been on probation for a second-degree burglary conviction.

Theodore Hart, 30, pleaded guilty on Feb. 2 to violating probation on Oct. 22, 2014. Hart had been on probation for a 2012 felony driving under the influence conviction when a probation officer found alcohol and a concealable weapon in his residence. Hart was sentenced to 120 hours of community work service, a $100 fee and a one-year extension of his probation.
