A child called 911 to ask if she could have a bake sale in front of her home. Dispatch told her to have her parents contact the borough office.

Police warned of a traffic hazard near the hotel construction site on Main Street. The hazard was marked with cones.
Saturday, Feb. 28
A Canadian visitor came to the station to turn himself in for being intoxicated. He wasn’t driving and had walked to the station. He was oriented and aware, and so was not taken into custody. Police contacted the man’s family, who was also in town. They said they would take care of the problem.
A caller reported a box of what appeared to be plastic hangers had fallen out of the back of a truck on Union Street. An officer responded but was unable to locate the box.
A Mosquito Lake resident reported his wife had taken his son out of Haines without his knowledge. Troopers were advised.
Friday, Feb. 27
A caregiver asked police to conduct a welfare check on a Haines resident. An officer contacted the resident and determined she was fine, just frustrated with her caregivers. She said she would call police if she needed any help.
An anonymous caller reported two suspicious-looking men walking down FAA Road. The caller believed the men were stopping and looking at different houses. An officer responded.
Thursday, Feb. 26
A caller reported a possible drunk driver on Main Street. The caller said the vehicle was a dark blue Chevrolet, but provided no further information. The caller said the vehicle had burned rubber on Main Street, headed toward Lutak, and turned around. An officer responded but was unable to locate the vehicle.
Wednesday, Feb. 25
A caller reported seeing a lot of smoke in the Carr’s Cove area. Fire crews responded to investigate and found a controlled burn. The property owner, who had failed to call in a permit, was advised to follow the rules for calling in a burn.
A pedestrian on Beach Road reported an open door on a vacant building. An officer responded, checked the property, secured the door and contacted the property owner.
A person reported a fire in the Klukwan area. Dispatch contacted the fire chief assistant out the Haines Highway, who said it was a controlled burn.
Tuesday, Feb. 24
Multiple callers reported a young man yelling and gesturing at traffic while walking on Main Street. He was also reported yelling at people at the post office. An officer located the man on Second Avenue. The man is known to officers and was warned about his behavior. He left the area with a family friend.
