Sunday, Dec. 14
A Fort Seward area resident reported seeing a vehicle with a door open and the dome light on. He asked an officer to respond and investigate. An officer contacted the vehicle owner and determined the seatbelt had stuck in the door and blocked it from closing. Nothing was missing from the vehicle.
Police responded to Small Tracts Road to conduct a welfare check on a man who was reportedly threatening to harm himself. Police took the man into protective custody, had him evaluated by a counselor and released him when it was determined he was no longer a threat to himself or others.
Saturday, Dec. 13
A Sunshine Road resident reported something happening in the area as a lot of dogs had been barking and thought it might be a bear. An officer responded and patrolled the area but didn’t find anything unusual.
A 911 caller reported his truck stolen from the front of a Main Street bar, where he had left it running. An officer found the vehicle five hours later abandoned off Major Road.
A caller reported her wallet was missing from her Second Avenue apartment. She asked to speak with an officer regarding suspicious circumstances surrounding the wallet’s disappearance. An officer spoke with the woman about the missing wallet. A case has not been initiated.
A pilot called to report lights at the Haines airport were on and had been for several days. The Department of Transportation was contacted and said they were waiting for a part to come in so they could fix the lights.
Friday, Dec. 12
A Mathias Avenue resident reported people on her property stealing oil and shooting her tires. An officer responded and didn’t find evidence of prowlers or tires having been shot.
Police received a protective order from the court to serve on a Haines man.
A caller reported his car out of gas near the intersection of Young Road and Lutak Road. The caller sounded confused. An officer responded and found the vehicle owner had gotten his vehicle to the gas station on Second Avenue.
A Small Tracts Road resident reported a suspicious man walking down Small Tracts Road and popping in and out of properties. An officer responded and contacted the man, whose car was out of gas. The officer took the man back to his vehicle.
A traffic stop resulted in a warning for no headlights.
Thursday, Dec. 11
A woman reported someone was allowing their dog to go to the bathroom on her daughter’s Deishu Drive property. An officer responded and spoke with both parties.
A Main Street business owner reported a hole was knocked into their store’s window. The hole was about the size of a dinner plate, but only damaged the outer pane of glass. The caller said the report was for insurance purposes and didn’t need an officer to respond.
A 911 caller reported a vehicle on the side of Comstock Road with a dog and unresponsive man inside. Officers responded and found an intoxicated driver. Police arrested the man for driving under the influence.
Wednesday, Dec. 10
Police took a Deishu Drive resident into custody on an arrest warrant for violation of conditions of probation.
Tuesday, Dec. 9
A Main Street business owner reported receiving a call from a man claiming to be with Social Security asking if she had applied for benefits with the agency. The caller reported the event because she thought it was an attempt to gain personal information.
A caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on people living in a trailer park near 1 Mile Haines Highway. The people were arguing and fighting over money. Police responded and determined no crime had been committed.
A Mathias Avenue resident reported burglars were on her property stealing items. The caller asked police to drive by her home, but she didn’t want contact. She also said she was going to present the borough with a bill for inadequate police protection. An officer responded to the residence and determined there was no one in the yard.
