The Chilkat Valley News is reprinting Mr. Traut’s obituary this week to correct the errors in the headline last week.
Friends and family members this week remembered Alan Traut as a strong-willed history buff, outdoorsman and community volunteer who forged a unique path in life.
A career military serviceman who retired in Haines, Traut, 73, died of a presumed heart attack at his home at 1 Mile Mud Bay Road. He was found there June 25, about two weeks after an Anchorage medical checkup. Trout was diabetic and had suffered heart problems in recent years.
^What’s important for people to know is how much he loved Alaska and how much he loved Haines^” said sister Susan Trout of MuncieIndiana. ^”I’m glad he was able to live there and to die there. It was heaven to him.^”
