I am putting my full support for Mayor to Joanie Wagner.
As an assembly member the past three years, I really believe it is important to have a fresh face in the mayor’s position at this time. While Jan Hill is an experienced political figure and well connected outside of Haines, I believe we need a change and a new Mayor is essential to allowing that to happen.
Jan had the opportunity during the recall to take the high ground expected of a leader and work as a peacemaker between factions. She didn’t. In fact, she took several opportunities to attack the assembly and the community. The result is that the community was seriously divided and we went through unnecessary turmoil. I believe these actions have tainted and diminished her effectiveness as Mayor.
I believe we have an opportunity now to make a unifying change in our mayor’s office. Joanie is our best chance for new beginnings. Let’s take that chance.
