A caller with an intermittent cell phone signal reported seeing a vehicle drive off the embankment near the Chilkoot River weir. The caller was unable to describe the vehicle but said there were two men and neither was injured. Police responded as troopers were unavailable, but were unable to locate the vehicle or contact the caller.
A person reported hearing smoke alarms in a downtown building. Police responded and located the source of the noise. Responsible parties reset the alarms.
A person reported a recreational vehicle was blocking access to the boat ramp at the Small Boat Harbor. Police responded and left a warning on the vehicle because the owner was gone.
An anonymous caller reported “Arabs” in the downtown area. The caller hung up when asked for his name.
A caller reported five carcasses on the path to the beach near Picture Point. Police determined they were chicken carcasses.
A caller reported three of her shrimp pots were taken from Letnikof Cove. Dispatch told the caller it was a trooper issue, but she said she wanted to report it to police.
A U.S. Customs officer reported he received a report of a mother bringing children not in her custody through the border to Haines. Police contacted the state and determined the report was invalid.

A caller reported someone fraudulently used her credit card in another state. Police initiated a case.
A caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on a Haines relative who hadn’t been heard from in a few days. Police determined the relative was in another city.
A caller reported a person burning without a permit on Lutak Road. Fire personnel were advised.
Police investigated the report of a fuel leak from a motor home in the downtown area. The leak had been cleaned up when police arrived.
A person reported a pick-up truck parked on Main Street for more than a month.
A traffic stop resulted in a warning for pulling in front of oncoming traffic and a citation for failure to carry proof of insurance.
Thursday, July 16
A person turned in a wallet found at 22 Mile Haines Highway. The owner was contacted and retrieved the wallet.
A caller reported someone broke a porch light on a public building in the downtown area. Police are investigating.
A caller reported a bear near the intersection of Second Avenue and Union Street. Police responded but didn’t locate the bear.
Police helped the Alaska Division of Juvenile Justice in the arrest of a 15-year-old Haines juvenile for a probation violation.
A man turned in a wallet he found at a Main Street coffee shop. The owner retrieved the wallet.
A traffic stop resulted in a citation for failure to provide proof of insurance.
Wednesday, July 15
A caller reported a man was picking berries on private property after being told not to. Police responded but didn’t locate the man. The man was later contacted by phone and told further trespass would result in prosecution.
A Mathias Avenue resident reported a juvenile was hitting her vehicle with his bike.
A caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on a relative with health problems. She later called back to say she got a hold of the relative.
Tuesday, July 14
A caller reported a woman accidentally locked her two small children in a vehicle at the school. Police and personnel from a Third Avenue business responded and unlocked the vehicle.
A caller reported a burn pile near the Chilkoot Indian Association subdivision reignited and was burning unattended. A CIA employee responded and extinguished the burning debris.
A traffic stop resulted in a warning for excessive smoke.
