Lawrence Willard, 75, died Sunday at his winter home in Lake Havasu, Ariz. Wife Shannon Willard said Lawrence was watching the Seahawks game and apparently suffered a heart attack. The Willard family invites friends to a luncheon at the Klukwan ANS Hall at noon Saturday. Soup and bread will be provided, but other food items are welcome. A memorial service will be held in November. A full obituary will be printed in next week’s CVN.

Friends of the Pool is sponsoring a free, “First Friday” swim at the pool 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4. The family-lap swim is an opportunity to add recreation to the evening of arts events around town and to check out the pool’s new inflatable slide. Information about the Friends and the pool sauna project will be available. Free refreshments.

Dani Leazier and Nik Marquardt were married at Mosquito Lake on Sept. 22, which was the Autumn Equinox. Leazier’s aunt and Haines local Deb Kemp attended, and other guests included the bride’s friend Maggie Hubert, who came from Seattle. Dani’s mother Jan Kellis and sister Stephanie, who was a bridesmaid, made the trip from Detroit Village, Mich. Dani’s mother gave away the bride. The couple’s two daughters, Pearl and Onyx, were the flower girls. Aunt Jen Postula with her son Tucker, who was the ring bearer, also came from Michigan. Nik’s brother Daniel Marquardt was his best man, and Ryan Everett was a groomsman.

Randy Ericksen retired after 35 years of work as fisheries science director at Ocean Outcomes. Ocean Outcomes works with communities and commercial fisheries to improve the sustainability of high-risk fisheries. Ericksen, who is one of the company’s original founders, also worked for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Cramer Fish Sciences and the Wild Salmon Center during his career. “It’s been an exciting ride,” Randy said, “I feel confident the sustainable seafood movement will continue to have positive impact on commercial fisheries in the regions which need it most.”

Elizabeth Jurgeleit flew to Seattle for a weeklong jaunt to meet up with friends in honor of her birthday last Saturday. Lizi Wirak, who is living in Bellingham, met up with the group that included Alicia Brandkamp of Los Angeles and Ellie Lokken of Denver. Jurgeleit met the duo through the interior design program at Washington State University. The women stayed in Fremont and the trip included shopping, dining and a trip to Bellingham.

Last Saturday, Holden Fontenot won a tennis tournament in Juneau held at The Alaska Club. Fontenot, 11, has been going to the Juneau courts on the weekends to play, which has benefited his game. He’s been playing for about a year, and it all started on a long road trip he took with parents Mark and Lenise Fontenot. They stayed at a hotel that had a tennis court, and that was where Fontenot tried the sport for the first time and instantly fell in love with it, he said.

Lynn Canal Broadcasting elected officers to its board of directors during its October meeting last week. Russ Lyman is president, Deb Potter and Jeff Bochart are co-vice presidents, Judy Erekson is treasurer and Margaret Sebens is secretary.

Haines High School was the 2016 host of the Southeast Honor Music Festival, held at the Chilkat Center October 24-26. Fourteen high school students from Haines were selected to participate: seniors Madeline Andriesen, Dylan Palmieri, Alyx Habra, Rachel Haas, Mori Hays; juniors Dalton Klinger, Keegan Palmieri, Sarah Long, Marty Fowler; sophomores Kamakana Kanahele, Lili Benassi; freshmen Nathan Haas, Kayleigh Fisher and Aireona Davis.
