The Southeast Alaska State Fair and the Takshanuk Watershed Council will present the sixth annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival on Nov. 11 at Harriett Hall at the fairgrounds.

The festival is a juried exhibition of short films focusing on the beauty and challenges of the changing natural world.

Among 10 short films featured this year are “Paddle For The North,” about six men in three canoes exploring the Peel River Watershed; “Skateboarding in Pine Ridge,” about children living on the Pine Ridge Reservation; and “Water Is Life,” documenting life along the Stikine River.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for dinner. The films begin at 7 p.m. Popcorn is free. There will be a silent dessert auction, with winners announced at intermission.

The dinner menu showcases local foods, including a Mediterranean fisherman’s stew with seafood donated by Norman Hughes and F/V Chilkat. Fresh sourdough bread will be donated by local baker Josie Allen. Beverages for sale include beer donated by Haines Brewing Co., wine donated by Barefoot Winery, and sodas donated by Haines Packing Co.

Advance tickets are $12 at Babbling Book, the fair or at the watershed council offices. Admission is $15 at the door, and $45 for families. Contact the fair at 766-2476.
