On Saturday, June 18, one of our first-year guides was exploring Chilkoot Lake on a personal trip. She was hiking up one of the creeks on the east side of the lake, and slipped and fell while scrambling up a waterfall. She suffered a significant injury to her hip and needed medical attention. We would like to thank everyone involved in helping to care for, and evacuate this individual from a challenging environment. The professionalism and care demonstrated by everyone involved was extraordinary, and we are proud to be a part of a great team/community.

To Julie Anderson and the entire Haines Volunteer Fire Department, thank you for the great patient care and tight communication with our team that enabled a swift and safe evacuation. To Temsco Helicopters and chief pilot Jesse Dominick, your responsiveness and professionalism is an incredible asset for the community of Haines. To Tim Holm and Chilkoot Lake Tours crew, your support with the pontoon boats enabled rescuers to quickly access the scene and was invaluable. To Travis Russell and Alaska State Parks, thank you for the support on scene and with coordination of interagency communication following the incident.

Thanks, Wes Heustess, for your leadership on scene

From the entire Alaska Mountain Guides/Chilkat Guides office and guide team in Haines and Skagway, we couldn’t be more proud of the teamwork, professionalism and support given on scene and with the overall response.
