Police wrote a report for a hit-and-run that occurred on a parked vehicle.

A traffic stop resulted in a citation for failure to carry proof of insurance and a warning for faulty equipment.

Saturday, March 26

A caller asked for Haines Animal Rescue Kennel veterinary assistance for a cat that wasn’t able to breathe properly.

A traffic stop near the airport resulted in the arrest of a 55-year-old Haines woman for driving under the influence. She was released on bail.

Friday, March 25

A motorist reported a reckless driver swerving all over the road. The police located the driver after she parked the car. Police initiated a case.

Police contacted a juvenile on Main Street for possible use of marijuana. Police contacted the youth’s parents.

Thursday, March 24

A caller reported a turkey in front of the post office. The Haines Animal Rescue Kennel was advised.

A person reported a vessel sinking near Battery Point. Small Boat Harbor staff assisted and all of the boaters were fine.

Police initiated a case for a motorist driving without a valid operator’s license.

A person found an unattended scooter at the Port Chilkoot Dock and took it to the police station.

A person turned in a snowmachine helmet found near 26 Mile Haines Highway.

Wednesday, March 23

Dispatch received two reports of gunshots near FAA Road. An officer responded but was unable to locate the source of the sounds.

Dispatch received a call about a plane down out Lutak Road near the ferry terminal. Officers and troopers responded.

Tuesday, March 22

A man reported two individuals walking around his Union Street residence looking suspicious. Officers responded and arrested a 26-year-old man for first-degree unlawful contact. He was lodged in the Haines jail.

A woman turned in a cell phone she found on a Mud Bay Road beach. The owner picked it up later.

A woman reported a couple at Tlingit Park having “inappropriate relations.” Police and troopers spoke with the couple.

A person came to the station to report losing a set of keys.

A man reported hearing 10 gunshots on lower Mud Bay Road. Dispatch asked the caller if he was sure the noises were gunshots and not fireworks; he said he was positive. An officer responded and determined it was fireworks.
