A motorist reported colliding with a moose at 15.5 Mile Haines Highway. The driver was uninjured and the moose had run off but the accident disabled the vehicle, which was left on the side of the road. State troopers were advised.
A resident reported he believed his personal identification information had been stolen after being unable to activate a new cell phone because the company did not have a record of him on file. He said he’d been with the telephone carrier for two years. The man was advised to call the phone carrier to verify his customer account number through past payments.
A 911 call was received and two juveniles were heard arguing over a sled. An officer patrolled local sledding areas to determine if there was any emergency and found none.
A 911 call was received for a furnace fire on Oslund Drive. An officer responded and put out the fire with an extinguisher before the fire department arrived. No injuries or structural damage were reported.
Sunday, Jan. 4
A caller from out-of-state sought a welfare check on family members living in Haines, as one had made threatening comments regarding a relative in Juneau. An officer contacted the family in Haines and determined there was no immediate threat of harm and the other family members in the household did not feel endangered.
An anonymous caller in Skagway sought help finding a place to stay there. The caller was provided with public safety phone numbers in Skagway.
A caller reported seeing excessive smoke coming from a Soap Suds Alley chimney. An officer saw smoke but no flames at the chimney. Dispatch contacted the owner of the home who said there was no fire, just a lot of smoke, as he was starting a fire.

A motorist on Soap Suds Alley called to report the road was icy.
A Comstock Road resident called to report the road was icy and dangerous as her dogs could barely walk on it.
Friday, Jan. 2
A Mud Bay Road resident called to report a person had come to the door and yelled about the resident’s dogs being loose. The caller also reported an ongoing issue with individuals who may be driving while intoxicated.
A border patrol officer reported a fallen tree blocking both lanes at 39 Mile Haines Highway. The caller shortly after reported that a plow had moved the tree from the roadway.
A resident reported losing her phone somewhere in town.
Thursday, Jan. 1
A motorist reported running out of gas at 12 Mile Haines Highway and hitching a ride with a snowplow. An officer helped the person get a gas can and gas and took the motorist back to his car at 12 Mile.
The manager of a Second Avenue apartment complex called about an intoxicated tenant. An officer responded and requested ambulance transport to the clinic for the tenant, who has medical problems impacted by alcohol.
A motorist driving in Letnikof subdivision reported sliding off a roadway into a ditch. An officer responded and helped another motorist get a vehicle out of a ditch.
A Second Avenue apartment tenant called for a welfare check on a neighbor who had not kept an appointment. The caller had checked the neighbor’s apartment and no one was home or answering the phone. Police left a message on the neighbor’s phone. The neighbor later called police to report being away for the day.

A 911 call was received without any caller identification for recall.
Tuesday, Dec. 30
A resident requested an officer to transport her to a relative’s house, after she had walked home to get her phone charger. As it wasn’t an emergency, the caller was advised to contact her relative to request a ride back the house.
A 911 call was received from a Mosquito Lake resident, reporting a former spouse and two others were trespassing. Troopers were advised.
A Front Street bar called seeking help removing a disruptive customer. An officer responded and assisted removing the patron.

A 911 call was received without any caller identification for recall.
Sunday, Dec. 28
A 911 call was received for an unattended death at Klukwan. State troopers and the fire department were notified.
Skagway police department computers went down and they called to request assistance from Haines dispatch.
Saturday, Dec. 27
A resident came into the police department to report the Haines Highway was icy. State road crews were advised.
Friday, Dec. 26
A 911 hang-up call was received and was determined to be an accidental dial.
Thursday, Dec. 25
A Fort Seward area resident reported seeing flames for 20 minutes in the area of Battle and FAA roads. An officer responded but didn’t see any signs of a fire.
A call was received to check on an intoxicated detainee. The caller was advised the detainee was no longer at the jail.
An officer followed up a situation on Piedad Road where suspicious subjects had been given permission by a property owner’s son to look at a snow machine to see if it was similar to theirs. The son failed to tell his father. Police determined there was no criminal activity.
A resident requested an officer accompany the resident’s visit to the home of an ex-spouse to gather belongings. An officer responded to the area to keep the peace.
Wednesday, Dec. 24
A resident brought a civil packet for police to serve on another resident. An officer attempted service but the person to be served was not home.
A Piedad resident called to report seeing two suspicious men looking at a parked snowmachine and ATVs. The men took off in a dark-colored, newer Chevrolet pickup when the caller approached them. The pickup was a standard cab type and had a broken-down snowmachine in the bed. An officer conducted an area check.
A 911 call was received from a man living near 33 Mile. The man said he’d been shot in the face by a pellet gun and was injured. Troopers, borough police and an ambulance responded. The injured man was transported to the clinic, treated, and released into police custody as he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was later released. Troopers are investigating.
An anonymous caller wanted to know what to do with a purse she had found outside a motel. She was advised to turn the purse into the reception desk at the motel.
Tuesday, Dec. 23
A traffic stop by an officer at 2 Mile Haines Highway resulted in the arrest of a Haines man who was charged with driving with his license revoked. The man was jailed.
A resident called to report a red pickup parked in a handicap space on Main Street at Second Avenue. The caller said he was blocking in the pickup by parking in front of it in a no-parking zone. The caller was advised against parking illegally. The pickup left. Using a license plate number the caller provided, police learned the vehicle was registered out of state. Police were unable to locate the vehicle.
A parent requested a welfare check on a juvenile who was not answering their phone. The parents were up the highway and had been trying to contact their child for two hours. An officer investigated and found the juvenile was safe. The juvenile was advised to contact her mother.
Monday, Dec. 22
A resident brought in a scam letter that came in the mail. An officer confirmed the letter was a fraud. The resident had not been defrauded.
A resident reported discovering fuel lines cut and three fuel tanks removed from boats he had stored near the fairgrounds. Two other boats stored in the area were also missing fuel tanks. The estimated cost of the fuel tanks is $150. The thefts may have occurred over three weeks ago. An officer responded to the scene, initiated a case, investigated the scene and took photos.
A collision between a pickup and bicycle was reported at Fourth Avenue and Main Street. The cyclist was taken to the clinic by ambulance. An officer responded and initiated a case for a collision resulting in an injury.
Sunday, Dec. 21
A caller reported a man, who appeared to be intoxicated, walking on Haines Highway near Sawmill Creek Road. An officer responded after the caller reported the man was now on the caller’s front porch. An officer arrived and interviewed the man, determined the situation was an evolving domestic dispute and took the man to a friend’s home at Fort Seward.
The manager of a restaurant reported seeing vehicles circling the building. The caller reported that the cars were “very nice” and had done the same thing several nights in a row and thought it was suspicious. An officer was advised.
A resident who was out of town called to seek help contacting her estranged housesitter so she could get her key retrieved and turn it over to a new housesitter. The key was located by an officer and given to a new housesitter.
Saturday, Dec. 20
A resident traveling along Beach Road reported the gate at the Port Chilkoot Dock had blown down. The harbormaster was advised.
Friday, Dec. 19
A caller reported that a person alleged to be a sex offender had returned to town and did not register. Police and troopers are investigating the report.
A welfare check was requested by a care provider for a local resident. An officer attempted to contact the party, but no one answered the door at the house.
A resident called to report a credit card fraud. A report was completed per the caller’s request for insurance purposes. At the caller’s request, no case was initiated.

A caller from out of town sought help with a family issue and needed troopers. A phone number was provided.
A caller who had been driving on Small Tracts Road reported that two males had attempted to flag her down. She did not stop and called the police. An officer responded to the area and located the males, who said they were attempting to hitchhike. They told the officer that they had since made other transportation arrangements.
