A caller reported someone stole prescription medication and electronics from her unlocked vehicle at Haines Highway and Sawmill Creek Road. A case was initiated.
A person turned in a wallet found on the Haines Highway.
A caller reported a group of young men “staking out” a business near Portage Street. An officer responded and told the men to go home.
Sunday, Nov. 1
Four traffic stops resulted in four citations, including two for failure to provide proof of insurance, one for expired vehicle registration and one for failure to register a vehicle.
Saturday, Oct. 31
A caller reported a bike was stolen from his Second Avenue apartment.
A traffic stop at Third Avenue and Union Street resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old woman for driving with a revoked license. She was released on her own recognizance.
Friday, Oct. 30
A person reported an injured bear on the breakwater at the Small Boat Harbor. Police were advised.
An anonymous caller reported people arguing on Battle Road. Police drove by the residence and found no activity.
A Mud Bay Road caller reported hearing a vehicle crash on Cemetery Hill. Police responded and found a trailer had come off a vehicle. The driver was waiting for help from a friend.
An injured bear returned to the Small Boat Harbor. Officers hazed it with rubber bullets and chased it down Front Street toward Lutak Road.
A man reported he found a snowboard on eBay that had disappeared while in the mail system. Police referred him to the postal service’s inspection unit in Anchorage as the case involved mail theft.
An out-of-state caller asked police to perform a welfare check on his daughter who recently traveled to Haines. Police investigated and found the daughter was fine.
Police euthanized the injured bear that had been causing trouble at the Small Boat Harbor.
A traffic stop resulted in a warning for speeding.
Thursday, Oct. 29
A caller on FAA Road reported hearing six gunshots coming from Small Tracts Road. Police were advised.
A man asked a welfare check be conducted after he saw a woman with a bruise on her forehead near Haines Highway and Mud Bay Road. The woman appeared to be homeless. Police made several unsuccessful attempts to check on the woman.
A boat owner reported a bear had entered his boat at the Small Boat Harbor and damaged some of his property. He asked why police hadn’t shot the bear.
A person reported a juvenile riding an ATV near the SEARHC clinic and bank parking lot. Police responded but the juvenile was gone.
Wednesday, Oct. 28
A caller on Beach Road called twice to report two brown bears fighting on his property were causing his dogs to bark. The man was threatening to shoot the bears, which previously ripped off the lock to his freezer and ate his frozen food. Police advised the man to secure his dogs. Troopers were notified.
Police served a protective order on a Haines man.
Tuesday, Oct. 27
Haines School staff reported a bear had wandered into the woods across from the school.
Multiple callers complained of excessive smoke in town. Dispatch advised they were multiple authorized, controlled burns.
A caller reported what he believed to be skeletal human remains near the Mud Bay spring. Police responded and determined the remains belonged to a bear. Troopers were notified.
Multiple reports were received about bears in the Haines School and Chilkoot Indian Association subdivision areas. Officers patrolled the areas, but the bears had wandered off.
A caller reported someone stomping and yelling nearby. Police were advised.
