The four-piece Ruth Moody Band is making a stop in Haines Saturday, March 8, during the folk group’s jaunt across Alaska.

The show, sponsored by the Haines Arts Council, starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Chilkat Center.

Moody, best known for her membership in the Canadian folk trio band The Wailin’ Jennys, is a two-time Juno Award winning artist who has performed in sold-out venues around the world. Her repertoire includes the guitar, banjo, accordion, piano and bodhran.

Arts council president Tom Heywood, who saw Moody perform at the Arts Northwest Showcase in 2011, said he was impressed with Moody’s laid-back, folksy style and introspective lyrics.

“I think she is really an upper-level performer. It’s going to be one of those not to be missed experiences,” Heywood said.

Heywood described Moody’s band as an Americana-style, contemporary folk kind of group with “great harmonies” and “thoughtful songs.”

The band is also performing in Valdez, Petersburg, Juneau and Skagway.

Tickets are $18 for adults, $10 for students and $40 for families.
