Visitor Mona Cochran of Reston, Va., played piano during lunch Tuesday at the Haines Senior Center.
“Several women sang along. It was just fantastic,” said Cindy Jackson, who took over as center manager six weeks ago. “I’d like to get more people to come in and play during lunch.”
The center already offers exercise machines, lunch, ride service and a meals on wheels, but Jackson said she’d like to add a few activities. “I’d like to see people volunteering time and doing activities with the folks here. They could play music, or share a skill they’d be willing to teach, or just share stories.”
The center sees an average 24 residents each day, and sends out six meals.
Senior lunch, for residents 60 and older, is served at the center daily Mondays through Thursdays. There is a $4 requested donation. For more information, contact Jackson at 766-2383.
Jackson is married to Walter Jackson, the son of longtime resident Olive Jackson. The Jacksons recently relocated to Haines from Boise, Idaho.
