Discounted, early registration is open through June 8 for Lynn Canal Community Players’ annual Summer Youth Theater Conservatory.

The three-week summer theater camp at the Chilkat Center runs July 1-21, culminating with performances July 19-20. The conservatory is open to youths ages 8 to 18. A half-day playmaking session, led by kindergarten teacher Cathy Pashigian, is offered the same dates to youths ages 5-7.

The conservatory offers youths instruction in acting, voice, movement, set-building, lighting, stage combat and more. It’s held weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students bring lunch and learn skills while helping create the finale production.

The conservatory will be led this year by Michelle Knight Reinhardt, a Chino, Calif., resident who holds master’s degrees in theatrical directing and cross-cultural education. She’s currently producing “Seussical the Musical” with the Chino Community Children’s Theater.

She also has led productions at the high school and junior high level.

Annette Smith of Haines said Knight Reihnhardt should be a good fit here. “She has a long resume of work with community theater as well as work in high schools and middle school. I think she’ll be a great addition for our group.”

No decision has been made on what play will be staged, but LCCP is leaning toward “Aladdin and His Magic Lamp,” Smith said. The conservatory’s non-discounted price is $275 and $175 for play-making sessions.

Registration for the program is at Babbling Book and at www. chilkatcenter.org/partners.

In addition, LCCP will be hiring two, full-time aides to serve during the duration of the program. Call Smith at 766-2708.
