Gov. Sean Parnell announced Tuesday this year’s Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend check will be $1,174. Alaskans eligible for the dividend who requested direct deposit will be paid Oct. 6; the rest will receive checks in the mail throughout the following weeks.

This year’s dividend is the smallest since 2006 and $107 less than last year’s amount. Of the 710,231 residents in Alaska, 647,549 are eligible to receive a portion of the estimated $760 million payout this year.

Parnell said at the press conference that this year’s payout is “healthy” but warned the amount could diminish more in future years because of market volatilities and the fact that oil production in the state is declining.
