Three candidates have filed to run for Mayor of the Haines Borough as of Wednesday morning.

John Brower and Stephanie Scott will challenge incumbent Mayor Jan Hill in October’s election.

The candidate filing period opened July 11 and runs through Friday, July 29.

Borough clerk Julie Cozzi said she has certified all three mayoral candidates.

“They will be on the ballot, unless they withdraw by the deadline,” Cozzi said.

The terms of Jerry Lapp and Scott Rossman on the Haines Borough Assembly will expire in October. Lapp filed for re-election this week.

The assembly also has an opening for a seat vacated by Greg Goodman following a Juneau Superior Court ruling.

As of Wednesday morning, no candidates had filed for the Haines Borough School District’s board of education. Brian Clay, Anne Marie Palmieri and Stacie Turner are at the end of their terms.

Cozzi said she expected several people to turn in paperwork close to the July 29 deadline.

Candidate filing packets are available at the borough office or online at http://www.hainesborough.us.
