Haines Borough Assembly members met for more than five hours Tuesday to address grievances former facilities director Brad Maynard filed against borough administration.
The public notice for the grievance hearings stated “relative to three grievances filed by Mr. Maynard,” the assembly would meet in executive session because “conducting the hearings in open session would tend to prejudice the reputations and character of the persons involved. These persons were provided an opportunity to request the hearings be conducted in public.”
Borough clerk Julie Cozzi said the assembly “acted in a quasi-judicial capacity,” facilitated by a hearing officer.
“The hearing officer will be writing up their findings, as code requires, and whether or not those findings, when they are issued, will be public remains to be seen,” Cozzi said Wednesday. “… It’s going to be at least nine days before we get written findings.”
Maynard submitted his resignation in early June, and the assembly later that month set the grievance hearings, following an executive session.
