Representation delayed is representation denied, same as justice delayed is justice denied. Now that the borough assembly agenda for June 28 was published with no action to seat someone in vacant seat E it shows the entire assembly is delaying representation for the citizens of Haines. This is a violation of both borough code and Alaska state law. The state may not have “Violation Police”in this case; we the citizens of Haines are the “Violation Police.” We have the power to elect people who will truly represent the citizens of Haines. We also have the power to recall those who refuse to truly represent the citizens of Haines. At the moment the six seats of the assembly and the Mayor are not representing the citizens, are in violation of borough code and state law – at least on two occasions. So the entire assembly should be replaced if they continue to refuse to represent the citizens of Haines and follow the law they all swore an oath to uphold.
