Kudos to our post office people for being the good guys in the interest of public service. The carpets you thoughtfully lay down every winter so that patrons can walk safely inside your building without having to remove their cleats or boots are appreciated by many, myself included. Some of our local business proprietors would do well to follow suit.

Demands for customers to remove their cleats before entering a store are rude and impractical. Cleats are difficult to remove and put on. Ever try removing your entire boot and shop in your stocking feet on a wet floor? Not a solution either. Investing in a little indoor/outdoor carpeting or rubber mats strategically placed would be a better “customer appreciation” gesture than all those sales. Listen up, proprietors: Customers who feel they really are appreciated are more willing to visit your business more often. And, thanks again, post office people.
