The annual KHNS fund-raising marathon held last week fell short of its $60,000 goal.

The station raised about $40,000 during the week of pitching for memberships. That amount is down considerably from $48,987 pledged last year and $53,000 pledged in 2008.

Station manager John Hedrick declined to discuss the fund-raiser with a CVN reporter.

Lynn Canal Broadcasting Corp. board member Randy Wiley of Skagway said he thought the economic recession was to blame for the big drop in giving. Wiley said the station had several ideas for making up the loss in donations, but wouldn’t say what those were.

“We’ll meet as a board and take it from there,” Wiley said.

Board chair Russ Bowman did not return phone messages Wednesday.

The board includes Eric Kocher, Deb Potter, Randy Wiley, Sarah Cohen, Rita Brouillette John Binger.
