The American Bald Eagle Foundation will host a showing for residents of “Flight for Freedom,” a professionally produced, 25-minute video about the eagle migration and annual eagle festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
“We haven’t shown the video to anyone. We wanted to show it to Haines residents first, as the premiere,” foundation director Cheryl McRoberts said this week.
The footage includes eagles in the wild, live bird demonstrations, downtown scenes and ones from the November festival. The festival coincides with the annual migration of thousands of eagles to the critical habitat area at the Tsirku River fan.
Residents, eagle festival presenters and festival guests are featured in the video.
The video will play continually in the foundation’s media room, in part to entice summer visitors to return in the fall for the festival, McRoberts said. The video was produced by Echo Media of Modesto, Calif.
Live bird presentations at the foundation this summer include ones with a Great Horned owl, a barred owl and a falcon. A resident eagle also is being trained for the presentations, foundation staff said this week.
