The rain held off as 15 contestants turned out Saturday morning, July 3, for the 2010 Mount Ripinsky Race. Congratulations to winner 15-year-old Corey Piper as well as to the 14 other finishers, who ranged in age from 11 to 58. Once again, appreciation goes to the small “village” within our greater July 4th volunteer village responsible for making this event happen: the Chamber of Commerce for its annual support; C.J. Jones for recording runners at the top and whipping in; Heather Lende for trail clearing and timing; the Haines Police department for traffic control; and race Father Erwin Hertz for blessing the runners and starting the race. Such holiday traditions are one key to a healthy community.
