World Cup fever swept the planet this summer and Haines was no exception.
“It’s been fun to see how that impacted the kids. The intermediates are really getting into it,” said Kirk Mearig, coach for last week’s Thunder Mountain soccer camp in Haines. Mearig said the U.S. team was the overwhelming favorite, but, when choosing team names, “somebody always wants to be Brazil.”
