A caller reported concerns about a relative who had not made it through the U.S./Canadian border before the nightly closure. Troopers were advised.

A Deishu Drive resident reported a recurring speeding vehicle. Police were advised.

Sunday, Oct. 11

An FAA Road resident reported speeding vehicles are an ongoing problem. An officer was advised.

A caller asked the Haines Volunteer Fire Department to conduct a carbon monoxide test at his residence. The test showed unsafe carbon monoxide levels. The residents were advised to temporarily leave the home.

A physician reported an attended death. The Haines Volunteer Fire Department responded and assisted.

Saturday, Oct. 10

Following a lengthy investigation by the police and troopers, a 23-year-old Haines man was indicted by a grand jury on multiple counts of sexual abuse of a minor and online enticement of a minor. The man was taken into custody and lodged at the Haines Rural Jail Facility. He was later released on $10,000 cash bail.

Several callers reported explosions and loud machinery running near 26 Mile Haines Highway. Callers said the noises have been recurrent, at about the same time every night, and that the sounds appeared to be coming from across the Klehini River. Troopers were advised.

Friday, Oct. 9

A caller reported a slide at 19 Mile Haines Highway. The state responded to begin clearing the roadway.

A caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on a man she saw “passed out” in his hallway. Officers responded and determined the 54-year-old man was dead. No sign of foul play was found and the Medical Examiner’s Office authorized release of the body to his family, who were notified by police. The Haines Volunteer Fire Department responded to assist.

A caller reported having no water in the Cathedral View subdivision. Water personnel were advised.

A traffic stop resulted in a warning for speeding.

Thursday, Oct. 8

A Union Street resident reported a woman he knew dumped garbage at his house. He called back shortly thereafter to report the woman had returned and wanted her garbage back. The caller refused to release the garbage before police came to investigate. A few minutes later, he called back again to report the issue was resolved.

A Deishu Drive resident reported finding a handgun under furniture in a home she owned. Police investigated.

A caller reported receiving a letter claiming she owed money on credit cards. She didn’t believe it was from a legitimate company. Police advised her to ignore the letter.

Wednesday, Oct. 7

A Deishu Drive caller reported a vehicle parked in front of a fire hydrant. The vehicle owner was contacted and advised to move.

An out-of-state caller asked police to conduct a welfare check on a relative traveling via ferry to Washington. The caller was advised there is limited cell service on the ferry and to call police if the person was still unaccounted for.

Police initiated a case for domestic violence assault on a Haines woman that occurred in Juneau. Police turned the investigation over to the Juneau Police Department for prosecution.

A person reported smoke near 26 Mile Haines Highway. The Klehini Valley Volunteer Fire Department determined it was a controlled burn.

A man reported a child on the corner of Third Avenue and Haines Highway who was crying and cold. The child told the man she was waiting for her mother. Police responded but the child was gone.

Tuesday, Oct. 6

A Deishu Drive resident asked for help with a domestic dispute. Police responded and arrested a 35-year-old Haines man for fourth-degree assault. He was lodged at the Haines Rural Jail Facility.

A caller reported a woman threatened to kill him at a local bar. An officer was advised.

A person reported a van parked in front of a fire hydrant. An officer was advised.

A Main Street business reported a vehicle parked in front of the store for more than one hour. The owner was notified and moved the vehicle.
