The Chilkat Valley News and The Bookstore are launching a new community book club this February.

The group will meet on the last Sunday of each month and follow a reading list that spans memoir, history, fiction, poetry, and non-fiction.  The goal is steady, communal reading and conversation that welcomes people who read carefully, or intermittently.

The kickoff meeting is set for Sunday, Feb. 22, with a discussion focused on Rough Crossing by 1994 Haines high school graduate Rosemary McGuire.

Here’s what the rest of the year looks like:

March: Open Veins of Latin America — Eduardo Galeano

April: G̱agaan X̱ʼusyee / Below the Foot of the Sun, Rivers in My Veins — Xʼunei Lance Twitchell and Kara Briggs
