What is the point of intense insider logging of our public timber lands at this point in time?  Is it because our government and populace are desperate for revenue generated by timber harvest? I doubt it.

Is it because our lands and rivers are so strong and naturally protected that we can run roughshod over any space we feel like and it will just be fine?  Not likely.

Is it because salmon and other wildlife thrive best when inundated with clearcut logging and resulting habitat destruction?  Just the opposite of course.

Maybe it’s because the world is crying for timber more than ever right now?  That might be the case since so much climate and war destruction has taken place recently.  But doesn’t cutting all the trees aggravate the situation?

Fortunately for us, our climate well being is so well assured that we can eliminate whatever trees are necessary for civilization. Wrong again!  Most likely it’s because tourists, the backbone of our economy, much prefer to see clearcut swashes gashing across the view shed that everyone wants at least a glimpse of.  Of course they would just as soon not eat Alaska wild salmon and halibut.

How is this approach going to help Alaskans, local businesses, fishermen, and visitors?  Far from that, it will destroy them.  We need community input on any and all programming that affects our lives and our environment.

Private entities are known to operate only in their self interests which usually is not for the good of all.
