I have lived in Haines my entire life and I know what a special place this is. We need leaders who will protect it. That’s why I support Gabe Thomas and Richard Clement.

They have stood up for our community – defending the cemetery’s proper use as outlined in the 1943 deed – and they are working proactively to rebuild the Lutak Dock. The dock is not just infrastructure; it is Haines’ lifeline, it brings in groceries, fuel, building supplies, equipment, vehicles and many more supplies that we all depend on year-round. It also generates hundreds of thousands of dollars in borough revenue.

The Lutak Dock is in serious disrepair. Waiting any longer risks both lives and livelihoods. If it fails, rerouting through Skagway isn’t a real solution – there aren’t enough trucks at AML to handle this, and winter road closures would make delivery unreliable and very costly.

Anyone who has watched the barge unload here knows the scale we are talking about.

This isn’t about politics. It’s about safety, security, and the future of Haines. We can’t afford scare tactics or more delays. We need action right away. I believe Gabe Thomas and Richard Clement will make it happen.

I also believe that Nate Reams and Kim Rosado will be strong additions to the planning commission
