This is an open letter to my conservative friends and neighbors who supported Donald Trump in our last election. Recent actions taken by the GOP and Trump Administration must be causing you as much concern as most Americans feel. The ending of programs that feed children, support education, give medical care to young and old who are in need, and reducing staffing at critical facilities that serve our Veterans are things I imagine you did not expect would be the outcome of casting your vote. Recent events at the Oval Office where the world witnessed the rude treatment of President Zelensky of Ukraine has all Americans feeling the stain cast upon our reputation as champion of democracy and beacon of freedom.

So the reason for my letter is to suggest that you connect with those in the political process to let them know that this is not what you voted for. Speak up for the nation we are. Good people who take care of their fellow residents on the planet. Let it be known that you do not support the ties to totalitarian regimes who seek to overthrow free nations. That you support programs for those in need, be they young or old, whatever their race. That our dedicated federal employees and our veterans that have served our nation are not to be treated like some kind of refuse. Please speak up, write your elected representatives.

Let’s make sure that this will not be America’s legacy.
