High praise for the remarks Episcopalian Bishop Mariann Budde made at the president-elect’s inauguration asking him to have mercy on gay, lesbian and transgender children as well as immigrants. She was not the only religious leader to challenge Trump’s executive orders. The day before the inauguration Pope Francis called Trump’s deportation plan (the third time in as many years) a “disgrace” if implemented. The U.S. Catholic Bishops Conference leaders said Trump’s immigration, climate change and death penalty orders were deeply troubling. As further examples of resistance to the immigration policies, the Associated Press reports that a Lutheran church in Portland, a Methodist church in Philadelphia, a mosque in New York, and an Episcopal diocese in Los Angeles, among others oppose Trump’s move against immigrants.

I wonder if those Christians who are in favor of Trump’s proclamations have forgotten the lesson of the Good Samaritan or if those who are non-religious, the golden rule?
