The loudest voices in our newspaper, the KHNS candidate interviews, and people on the street are pointing fingers, finding fault, blaming sitting borough assembly members, and claiming they represent the good and just information and policy leaders.
I’ve yet to see civility and responsible governance come from accusatory language as a challenge to seated leaders with whom those loud voices categorically disagree. They criticize with an all-encompassing broad stroke in repeated ads peppered with false, inflammatory statements.
I’ve served on the assembly and observed assemblies regularly for over a decade. In that time, the current assembly has been one of the most productive, engaged, and proactive bodies openly working to serve the people of Haines.
All assembly members bring different perspectives and priorities. Natalie Dawson and Debra Schnabel deserve our respect, appreciation, and our votes. Nora Zimmerly is a breath of fresh air and has a positive, can-do attitude. These are the kind of leaders Haines sorely needs.
