Sunday, August 18 

Caller advised that she received secondhand information that people were chasing bears at Chilkoot. 

Caller turned in a black iphone, the owner was located and the phone returned. 

A driver was issued a verbal warning for speeding on Mud Bay Road. 

Monday, August 19 

Caller reported hearing a gunshot and the sounds of a bear in distress on FAA Road. HBPD officers and Alaska State Troopers responded and searched the area but did not locate the bear or any blood in the area. 

Tuesday, August 20 

A driver was issued a verbal warning for speeding on Haines Highway. 

Caller reported being contacted on facebook about a rental on Skyline Drive. The caller questioned the person and found out they did not own the house and did not know the owner of the house. 

Officer found a vehicle in the ditch and made contact with the owner who stated the vehicle would be moved in the morning. 

Wednesday, August 21

Caller reported a bear eating cherries on Small Tracts Road the last two days. Caller stated he had almost run into the bear a couple  times but both times the bear had backed away from him. 

Caller reported a lost necklace and left contact information with the HBPD Dispatch. 

Caller reported finding three fake $100.00 bills. An officer responded and took the bills. Other bills were found out the highway and turned in later that day. 

HBPD officer and HVFD responded to a report of an outbuilding on fire – fire was extinguished. 

Thursday, August 22 

Caller reported his neighbors have garbage everywhere and expressed concern it will draw in a bear. Caller was advised to contact their landlord. 

Driver was issued a verbal warning for a stop sign violation at the Chilkat subdivision. 

Driver was issued a verbal warning for failure to yield to a pedestrian and excessive speed on Second Avenue. 

Driver was issued a verbal warning for speeding on Haines Highway. 

Caller reported a grill that was left unattended had large flames – HBPD responded and made contact with the individual. 

Caller reported very loud music for 30 minutes  on Sawmill Road – HBPD officers advised. 

Friday, August 23 

Driver was issued a verbal warning for failing to come to a complete stop before entering a roadway on Haines Highway. 

Caller advised that on a previous day another vehicle backed into their parked vehicle. 

Caller requested information on a vehicle that was abandoned 8 months prior. 

Caller reported a suspicious person hanging around the area – HBPD officer responded and found the person was waiting on a ride.

Driver was issued a verbal warning for failure to stop at a stop sign on Second Avenue. 

Driver was issued a verbal warning for speeding on Main Street. 

Caller reports an ongoing harassment by another citizen – HBPD officer is investigating the incident. 

Caller reported smoke from their neighbors control burn going onto their property and creating a hazard. 

Saturday, August 24

Driver was given a verbal warning for registration on Haines Highway.  

Caller reported a loud explosion and their house shaking – investigation showed it came from the firing of a cannon during a celebration of life. 

A backpack was found at Jenae’s Playground and turned into HBPD dispatch – the owner was located and advised to pick up the backpack. 

There were four 911 hang up calls, zero canine calls and 5 EMS calls during this reporting.
