This year Takshanuk Watershed Council’s SnowSchool program served 236 youth in preschool through eighth grade in Haines and Klukwan. Every student participated in either an hour-long snowshoeing field trip or a day-long cross-country ski outing at 25 Mile.
This tremendous effort to get our youth outside and engaging with the watershed in the winter wouldn’t be possible without our partners and volunteers. Thank you Haines Huts and Trails volunteers, Nate Cote from Alaska State Parks, and Jim Stanford for grooming the trails to ensure that every cross-country skiing trip was a success. Thank you Zach Tarleton, Tom Morphet, Jess Crowe and Anissa Berry for helping out with the skiing field trips and thank you Brittany Dunbar and Beth Fenhaus from Haines Avalanche Center for providing beacon practice and avalanche awareness before every outing. Healthy winter recreation is a great way to enjoy our beautiful valley and we are grateful to our community for stepping up and making SnowSchool 2024 a success!
