Remi Lou Bangs was born to Caroline (Ward) Bangs and Travis Bangs on Oct.25 in Sitka. Remi was born at 6:51 p.m., she weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 21.5 inches long. Remi shares a birthday with her dad Travis, who turned 25 the day she was born. The family is doing well.
Sherri Kessner-Kinegak and Josh Poirier welcomed daughter Maya Amara Poirier on October 26 at 8:30 a.m. Maya weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce and was 20 inches long. She joins big brother Zane and foster siblings Kano and Kenzie.
Bozhi Sebens and Daniel Dellinger were engaged at sunset on October 29 at the Myrtle Beach Sky Wheel in South Carolina. The date is also Bozhi’s birthday. A small family wedding and reception is planned for this winter. Bozhi’s parents are Tod and Margaret Sebens.
The Annual Doll Fair at the Haines Sheldon Museum celebrated its 41st anniversary this year with the theme, “Bring Your Doll to the Masquerade Ball.” Kids enjoyed crafts that included making doll-sized masks and jester hats, kid size masks and a glitter tattoo station with help from Jila Stuart and Jo Goerner. “After crafts, kids had a doll tea party in the children’s room and drank Russian tea and ate doll size snacks brought by the families,” said museum community coordinator Regi Johanos.
The Uglys of Haines held a Halloween Eve dinner fundraiser Tuesday with funds going toward props for next year’s Halloween haunted house. “We hope to have it at our property on the road before the golf course that was donated by Vickie Munden. We have plans to build a Quonset hut on the property and host a spooky Halloween haunted house,” said member Gary Jacobson.
Chris and Linsey Dixon traveled to New England to celebrate their 15 year anniversary. The couple flew to Boston and left the same day to spend time in Salem, Mass., Bath, Maine, and other coastal Maine villages on the way to Bar Harbor. “We checked out Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, and then drove the Kancamagus Highway and White Mountains in N.H., and checked out a few cute little harvest celebrations and the Pumpkin Festival in Laconia,” said Lindsey. After spending a few days in a cabin on Wyman Lake the trip ended back in Boston, where they checked out the sights- Freedom Trail, Boston Public Market and the famous Cheers Bar. “We caught the Celtics opening night game against the 76’ers at the TD Garden for Chris’ birthday the night before we left,” added Lindsey.
On Friday, October 19 Hospice of Haines hosted its annual Light the Night luminary remembrance walk. The event relocated to the elementary gym, from the scheduled Port Chilkoot Dock location, due to wind and rain. About 25 community members lit luminaries with the names of their loved ones who had passed away. Others wrote notes to their loved ones. These luminaries were placed around a lighted path, and those attending gathered in small groups to reflect or share with others. “This autumn event allows everyone to remember and celebrate,” said organizer Shannon McPhetres.
The Chilkat Valley Preschool and Head Start preschool programs had their first joint pumpkin carving night last Wednesday. Parents brought dishes to share and kids enjoyed carving pumpkins with their families. “We look forward to maybe doing a cookie decorating party for Christmas,” said Head Start teacher Tiffany DeWitt.
