A caller reported a bear spread trash from a nearby trailer park all across her property. She asked the responsible party be notified to clean it up. An officer was advised.

A Paradise Cove resident reported an unoccupied sailboat dragging anchor in the cove. The harbormaster was contacted and said the boat was secured in the Letnikof harbor.

A caller reported a possibly intoxicated driver on Lutak Road. Police responded and determined the driver was sober.

High winds blew a tree down across power lines, causing an outage. The phone utility responded and restored power within 20 minutes.

Sunday, Aug. 16

An anonymous caller reported he was almost hit by a vehicle on Main Street. Officers were advised.

A person reported a minor vehicle accident on Main Street. Police responded, provided both parties with forms and issued a citation for failure to provide proof of insurance.

People turned in a wallet, a set of Subaru keys and an iPod to the department. Ads were placed on the community website.

A traffic stop resulted in a citation for speeding.

Saturday, Aug. 15

A caller reported a motor home was impeding traffic on Union Street. Police contacted the driver, who moved the vehicle.

An anonymous caller reported a vehicle parked in the roadway at the Small Boat Harbor parking lot. The same caller reported a vehicle parked the wrong way on Main Street. Officers were advised.

A person turned in an Aircast leg brace found at the Mud Bay Road spring.

Friday, Aug. 14

Several people complained about controlled burns and air quality in the Highland Estates area. The fire chief responded. Fire personnel responded to Mathias Avenue and Lutak Road to extinguish two unauthorized burns.

A caller reported vehicles parking for more than two hours on Second Avenue. Police responded and marked tires in the area. Several hours later police issued one parking citation.

A caller reported a truck pulling a boat trailer was parked in front of the fuel pump at the Small Boat Harbor and the driver was refusing to move the vehicle. The person called back to say the driver moved it.

A caller reported teenage ATV drivers doing laps around Fourth Avenue and the gravel pit off of Young Road. Police responded but were unable to locate the teenagers.

A caller reported youths driving ATVs on Comstock Road had trespassed on private property causing extensive damage. Police responded but were unable to locate any ATVs in the area.

Thursday, Aug. 13

Police received an anonymous complaint about someone fishing on private property at 7 Mile Haines Highway. The complaint was referred to troopers.

Police issued a parking citation and a notice of possible vehicle impoundment to a vehicle parked at the Small Boat Harbor for more than a month.

A person fishing at Chilkoot Lake reported being threatened by a man who waved a knife and told her she had no right to fish there. Troopers and park rangers responded and investigated.

Police assisted a person with a breath alcohol test at the station and served a modification to a protective order.

A person asked police to conduct a welfare check on a woman who hadn’t been heard from by her family and friends for more than two weeks. The woman had apparently been medevaced out of Haines two weeks ago. Police advised that a missing person report could be initiated.

Wednesday, Aug. 12

A person found a yellow bike at the Senior Center. Police are holding it at the station.

A caller in the Chilkoot Estates subdivision asked for help with her cat. The animal control officer was advised.

Police initiated a case involving a Mud Bay Road couple’s domestic dispute.

A caller reported a vehicle crash on Portage Street involving a tour bus and a vehicle. The bus had damaged a vehicle and part of a deck. Police investigated.

A person reported seeing a vehicle pull out of a Main Street parking space and hit another car, breaking its headlights. The car drove away without stopping. Police are investigating.

A caller reported his vehicle was damaged by another vehicle in a parking lot off of Haines Highway. The caller reported both parties had exchanged information. Police were advised.

A caller at a Mud Bay Road campground reported loud, young campers at a nearby site. The manager of the campground was contacted and said he’d contact the noise makers. .

Tuesday, Aug. 11

A person asked about a controlled burn producing excessive smoke. Fire personnel responded.

A tour operator reported an unidentified, guitar-wielding panhandler at the Port Chilkoot Dock each time a cruise ship comes in. Officers responded but did not find the solicitor.

A caller reported a Canadian boat ran over his commercial fishing net. He asked a report be generated for insurance purposes. The incident was referred to troopers.

A caller reported explosions going off in the Mud Bay Road and Small Tracts Road area. Police responded but didn’t locate the source.
