The recent increased truck traffic along Lutak Road by Southeast Road Builders to export sand and gravel from the Haines Borough via the Lutak Dock is noisy, dangerous, and incompatible with bikers, walkers and families with kids and strollers along Lutak Road. It is unacceptable and intolerable.

Local government that caters to industry to the detriment of its residents, especially all those who live and recreate along this haul route, and to the expense of other businesses such as bicycle and other tours that depend on scenic beauty, wildlife watching, and relative peace and quiet, is failing.

The “cease and desist” order issued by the Borough to Southeast Road Builders for its unpermitted resource extraction across from Lutak Dock should also be applied to all activity related to resource extraction. This truck traffic reportedly scheduled to continue through September, prime recreational season being disrupted and endangered in its wake, should also immediately cease and desist.
