Fred Folletti, who’s awaiting sentencing for federal drug charges, is now facing two additional felony charges during the same week related to the possession and intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Officer Max Jusi arrested Folletti on April 13 after executing a search warrant for his home. Jusi obtained the warrant after he found meth on a woman who Folletti dropped off at the ferry terminal. The woman said she received the meth from Folletti.
After conducting a search warrant at his residence, Jusi found 2.91 grams of meth. “Also in the immediate vicinity were several pre-folded paper bindles, consistent with those used for transporting and distributing controlled substances,” Jusi wrote in his report.
He was also indicted on April 7 and named as a co-defendant after an incident at the Haines airport where police arrested a 34-year-old woman for possession and intent to distribute 1.1. ounces of meth.
According to court documents related to that case, Folletti “arranged for her to meet a man in Juneau at the Glory Hole, a Juneau homeless shelter, to pick up a baggie of an unknown substance for her to bring to Haines,” court documents state. “(The woman) further said Folletti arranged her travel on Alaska Seaplanes, told her to put the bag in her purse, and he would see her at 4 p.m. when her flight landed.”
Folletti was arrested in Craig in December 2021 for the intent to distribute 79 grams of meth and is awaiting sentencing in federal court. Based on federal court documents, Folletti “directed and arranged an unindicted co-conspirator to travel to Seattle, Washington to obtain methamphetamine and to transport the drugs back to Haines, Alaska for subsequent distribution.”
Folletti appeared telephonically in the Haines District Court on Monday, April 17 and was held on a $10,000 bond.
He pled guilty to a drug conspiracy charge in that case and was scheduled to be sentenced on April 27. The penalties for the charge include a five-year minimum sentence and a $5 million fine. His federal probation was revoked after the most recent charges. As of Wednesday, Folletti was being housed in the Haines jail awaiting transport to Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau.
Haines Police worked in partnership with the Juneau Police Department and the Southeast Alaska Cities Against Drugs, a regional task force of municipal, state and federal law enforcement in the most recent charges.
