I have a math problem that I need help with, a story problem, if you remember those from your school days:

Recently I visited family in the Lower 48 and on the way back I picked up a few bulk items from a large box store. One of those items was a giant box of plastic garbage bags; at least a year’s worth based on my family’s average usage. But as of Aug. 15, according to the CVN’s latest report, those bags are going to cost me $7 each to use at the landfill. I could instead opt to purchase the “drop and go” bags offered by Community Waste Solutions (CWS) for $6 each. So, mathematicians, what to do:

A. Use the bags that I have purchased and try to ignore the fact that they will ultimately cost more than $200 to use;

B. Purchase and use the CWS bags and try not to be annoyed every time I see the large box of bags on the shelf in the garage for years to come;

C. Forget about the environment and common sense, use my bags then put them inside the CWS bags so I can save $1;

D. None of the above because surely we can come up with better ideas than this odd and expensive solution to a common problem.

I don’t have a good answer, but in the meantime, for sale: $250ish worth of garbage bags, or will trade for a good answer to the above problem.
