Haines Glacier Bear wrestlers competed at a meet in Juneau last weekend with three of five wrestlers now seeded for the Region V tournament in Wrangell this weekend. Their region V seeds put them in a good position to qualify for the state tournament.

Sophomore Jackson Long placed third in the 189-pound weight class after winning two of three exhibition matches. He is seeded third for his weight class at regionals.

Sophomore Leo Wald placed third in the 152-pound weight class with a 4-2 record. Wald is also seeded third.

Freshman Rylan Jorgenson placed third among junior varsity wrestlers in the 152-pound weight class. Jorgenson won one match and lost two.

Freshman Hayden Jimenez was bumped into the 112-pound weight class since only one other athlete was entered in the 103-pound weight class. Jimenez won two matches to place fifth overall. Jimenez is seeded first for the Region V meet.

“I’m excited for regionals,” said Jimenez. “I think I will do well. I never expected to be seeded my freshman year at all, and especially for regionals. I think the whole team will do good. I’m happy to be a part of this team.”

Jimenez is seeded sixth for state. He said he’s aiming for first, but hopes to at least place in the top three.

The team will be traveling to Wrangell to compete at the Region V meet on Friday. The top three athletes in each weight class will qualify for the state meet on Dec. 17.YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN:
