A big thank you to Mountain Market and all other essential businesses in Haines that support wearing a mask when in the presence of customers. I really appreciate this courtesy. When I run low on food and must shop at Olerud’s or Howsers, I feel anger, insult and resentment that managers and people working there (with the exception of a very few), don’t wear masks around us. It feels like a slap in the face, like they feel we are not worthy of them wearing a mask in order to potentially protect us from serious illness or death from COVID. This is especially true for us older folks who are more at risk. It’s not like these viruses will magically bypass Haines. They are mutating and are here amongst us and spreading. I have lived here year-round for 15 years and have spent a lot of money at these stores through the years. I feel that I, and all other citizens of Haines, deserve the respect of people serving us to try to protect us from disease as best they can.
