Klukwan, Inc. shareholders are eligible to receive $225 each for showing proof of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
Village corporation president Rosemarie Hotch said this week that the vaccine incentive money comes from a federal CARES Act grant of $100,000. The deadline to apply for the incentive money is Dec. 1 and grant funds must be distributed by Dec. 31.
Hotch said Alaska Native corporations were delayed from receiving relief funds for about 15 months due to a federal lawsuit challenging their eligibility. The money is important because Natives from Haines and Klukwan living down south may have been left out of tribal relief programs to date, she said.
“We’re helping Native people in California, Washington and Wisconsin who, up to this date, received nothing in assistance,” Hotch said. She estimated that 40 percent of the corporation’s 437 shareholders live in Haines and Klukwan.
Shareholders need to mail or email a copy of their vaccination card to receive the incentive money. They can be mailed to Klukwan, Inc., PMB 160, 2440 E. Tudor Rd., Anchorage, AK 99507.
Via email, requests for the incentive should be sent to [email protected]. For more information, phone Hotch at 907-250-0125 or reach her through her Facebook page.
