As a part-time visitor to Haines since I bought property in the early 1980’s, I’ve kept an interested eye on all the evolutions through the years. I hate to see it designated as a gun sanctuary. I never got the sense of the town being overly pro-gun so it seems like a vanity issue. Since it represents the entire community, it deserves to be voted on by everybody.
Also, to the Mayor, I want to point out that the bill of rights was indeed given to us by our government. They can take them away. The people must always remain vigilant to support our fragile constitutional government. The three branches of government work to balance power. No branch and certainly not the Second Amendment deserve to be unduly energized by power.
