We wish to thank the many Haines community members who helped us so much recovering personal property during the recent temporary opening of Beach Road.

About $400,000 of property was recovered by various residents.

We want to note that the approximate value of the remaining personal property and real estate is about $10,000,000. Beach Road residents could potentially lose all of this.

Perhaps we will be compensated for part of this. But, ideally, we would like to be allowed to use our own judgement and community resources to get reliable access and power to our homes – we think this would be the best solution. This is probably not going to happen anytime soon, while we wait for the state DOT to renegotiate a $1 million contract to study the safety of the landslide area. So, we are in a kind of limbo, where we just don’t know what is going to happen and how much we are going to lose. This is extremely stressful for us.

Please bear with us while we try to work through this difficult time. Some of us are justifiably pretty unhappy with various aspects of this situation.

Thank you again for all your help.
