Brenda Josephson lost her seat on the borough assembly because many of us who voted for her the first time around were appalled by her misuse of power. Her ideological surety resulted in her denying legitimacy to anyone not in her camp and she used continual political maneuvering to undermine people not to her liking.

So, why is it that Josephson is now the EOC Logistic Chief? It’s an important position in an agency that is supposed to be above politics and that we especially now need to trust.

According to Alekka Fullerton, EOC commander Carolann Wooten appointed Josephson to the position after Ed Coffland asked to be removed from it. I asked Wooten for the date of Josephson’s appointment, but received no response. Apparently, Josephson was out of town during the height of the weather crisis when so many locals stepped forward to do what needed to be done. The Dec. 10 EOC town hall meeting was the first time I became aware of her new role.

I believe it was both unkind and unwise for Wooten to foist on us someone so politically toxic that within three years time went from being the highest vote getter on the borough assembly to only a very few votes from being the lowest. Even the planning commission recently declined to recommend her to its board when she applied to be on it.

We need people like Mayor Douglas Olerud—who want to unite us, not divide us—in positions of power.
