In the Oct. 1 CVN, Terrance Pardee refers to “highly paid environmental mouths.” It would have been nice of Terrance to let us know where we can find such jobs locally. It’s not Lynn Canal Conservation, I can assure you – after serving 20 years as president of that organization in the 31 years I have lived in here, my total take was one hundred dollars. Yep, one C-note, a slim Franklin for doing a very wet, one-day job in a bug infested swamp. Don’t believe this? Let’s reveal tax returns since 1990. You show me yours, Terry, and I’ll show you mine.
The main thrust of Mr. Pardee’s letter seems to be boosterism for an ore transfer facility at Lutak. As chair of the ports and harbors committee, Terrance would do well to look at the record of ore concentrate spills from truck accidents at Red Dog mine: more than 30, and Teck Cominco reports four just in the last year. A look at copper sulfide and other heavy metal impacts on aquatic life might also help inform Mr. Pardee’s opinions. I’ll gladly share this info when we compare our tax returns.
