The rubber duckies will ride again. This year, after a brief hiatus, residents can try their luck again in the Rubber Ducky Race, put on by the Takshanuk Watershed Council. From 7.5 Mile, Lutak, ducks will float about 30 feet downstream to the finish line.
“It’s a really fun event just to watch,” said Meredith Pochardt, executive director of the Takshanuk Watershed Council. Pochardt says they’ve prepared a stockpile of 130 ducks, but they are ready to acquire more if interest is strong.
The winning duck’s handler will bring home a cash prize of $200, while the owner of the losing duck will get a consolation prize: free pizza at the Alpenglow.
The race begins at 2:30 P.M. on July 4. Tickets are available now at the bank or on the day of the event for five dollars. Money will support Takshanuk Watershed Council’s programs.
