There is doubt in Haines about our drug problem and the need for a “drug canine” presence. I hope sharing my personal feelings will be informative enough to change your mind.
If only one drug dealer is apprehended by using our tax dollars to help our very willing police department with a dog; I feel it is money well spent. This could prevent that batch of drugs from reaching your sister or brother, your child or the child of your best friend.
I have family members addicted to hard drugs living here in town….multiple extended family members and friends; and friend’s children; some in recovery but most are not. I know several people that deal daily with addicts in their families and they can reference people they know with drug issues in their families.
Saying drugs aren’t a serious problem in this town is like saying there is no alcohol; sexual; physical or emotional abuse here. Our young people are being lured by the drug dealing lowlifes prowling around selling meth and heroin and paying a price with their bodies and souls. The drugs turn great people into lying, cheating, thieving burdens to our families and entire community.
If this investment will save even just one person Haines from the availability of a batch of drugs it seems like an incredible deal to me. Knowing that it will be even better than that is a gift in which we will all benefit.
Thank you,
Sue Clayton Folletti
