I was doing a bit at the talent show of the fair and I kind of messed up and ran out of time before finishing my song, “Giant Steel Wall in the Harbor, You Look Like a Bunch of Trash Cans Put Together.”
So for the folks wondering what the last line is, it’s “we could have had open gym on Sunday for 10,000 years with that much money.”
Was I making a pitch for open gym on Sunday? Yes. Do I think the school’s gym, the only gym in town, should be open on Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. for anyone to come in and do anything? Yes.
What we need to do is re-educate the school and change the culture of our town. Even if they did open the gym on Sunday, it’s really hard to get people to come because the culture of Haines has taught people the gym is not open on Sunday and many bars and carry-outs are. It is tough to make change but change is natural. Not changing is not natural. Yours for good clean fun,
Joe Parnell
